Weight Training

Vancouver massage therapy is widely available. You can book a session with a Registered Massage Therapist in downtown Vancouver on this site or call 604.633.9593. Ask about the benefits that combining weight training and massage therapy can have for your health.

Too many people limit their exercise routine to aerobic activity and stretching. Although both are vital components for staying fit, it is important not to forget weight training. While aerobic exercise will improve your cardiovascular fitness and help you achieve a healthy body weight, it is unable to provide the same benefits that a combined aerobic and weight program can offer.

Weight training works to help you achieve your healthy weight by boosting your metabolism. The greater your muscle to fat ratio, the more calories your body is able to burn. This means that by adding weight training to your exercise routine you will actually be improving the effectiveness of your aerobic exercise as well.

When someone starts exercising they often do so not only to loose body fat, but also to improve their body’s tone and shape. With proper instruction, weight training can be a very effective body sculptor.

Finally, weight training also provides benefits outside of improving your appearance. Studies have shown that active weight training can strengthen bones, decreasing the risk of osteoporosis, especially in women. Weight training can also improve coordination and balance.

If you are considering adding a form of weight training to your workout routine you should keep in mind that weight training does not necessarily have to involve actual weights. Although dumbbells and hand weights are one option, any form of exercise that provides sufficient resistance can provide the benefits of weight training.

For example, if you belong to a fitness center you can try using strength training machines. These machines are designed to make weight training easier and less intimidating. They provide adequate support for the body to ensure that beginners and those suffering from injuries are able to complete the exercises safely.
These machines also save time and are much easier to use than free weights.

A great trend that is really picking up is circuit training. A circuit is a series of weight machines that the user completes intermittently with some form of aerobic exercise. Circuits take the guess work out of weight training by providing a total body work out. They also save time by combining aerobics and weights, which means that a complete exercise session can take as little as a half hour.

You may also consider joining a resistance training fitness class. These classes come in a variety of types and include yoga, pilates, aquatic resistance training, and exercise ball classes. In the class setting you have the benefit of a trained instructor to ensure that you complete the exercises properly and safely. The variety of classes available also ensures that you do not grow bored of your routine.

As with any new venture, starting a weight training program can take your body some time to adapt. Until you build strength and endurance you may find yourself experiencing physical discomfort from tired and sore muscles. Regular sessions with a registered massage therapist can speed recovery time after a workout.
