Pregnancy massage and low back pain |
|
Pregnancy affects the entire body. We provide a lot of pregnancy massage for women coming in with Sciatica, shoulder and upper back tension and low back pain . As the body makes room for the growing baby the musculoskeletal system must adapt accordingly. This is where having pregnancy massage is extremely beneficial.
Low back pain usually starts in the late second trimester. This is because the abdominal cavity is increasing in size. As the abdomen stretches forward, the additional weight needs to be supported by the lower back. For the majority of women this means the pelvis rotates forward and even greater pressure is placed on the low back.
Low back pain usually occurs from the week muscles being stretched. Additionally as the stomach moves out and down the superficial lower back muscles are put in a shortened position. As the weeks turn to months your Fascial tissue adapts to support the growing baby.
4 tips to reducing your chance of low back pain during pregnancy
1. Strengthen your core muscles before becoming pregnant.
2. Have a pregnancy workout to maintain your body.
3. Work with an RMT to establish a pregnancy massage program.
4. Hope you don’t have triplets.
If you’re planning on becoming pregnant, talk to your RMT to understand the anatomical changes your body will go through. The RMT will also show you how pregnancy massage can reduce any low back pain you may experience.
