Along with the Electra Health Floor, Nicole is also working with the
Canadian Women’s National Soccer Team. She has been working with the
team since January 2008, and has had the privilege of traveling with
them to China, Cyprus, France, Korea, Australia and Mexico. She was
also fortunate enough to work with the team leading up to and
throughout the
2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.
Nicole's interest in the health care field began very early on. Upon
graduating high school she began the RN program through Malaspina
College/ University. After the first year she decided to take time off
to pursue another dream of hers, travel. She spent a significant
amount of time traveling through South East Asia and underwent meditation
and yoga training in Northern India. It was through her travels that
she realized her desire to aid people in physical and emotional
wellness.
After graduating from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in 2006
she was drawn to the orthopedic aspect of anatomy, as well as the
stretching and strengthening importance in recovery. Seeking out the
cause of the symptoms is as important as treating the symptoms. Expect
to talk with Nicole about any exacerbating or reinforcing behaviors
such as your desk ergonomics, or even your sleeping position.
Her area of interest includes Sports Massage, along with diagnoses and
treatment of common injuries related to weaknesses and dysfunction. She
has post-graduate training enabling her to work with elite athletes.
Her work with the Women’s National Soccer team has given her
great insight into many sports related conditions and high performance
athletes.
Nicole also has a strong interest in Pre and Post Natal Massage Therapy
and in treating many of the common dysfunctions that plague women while
they are pregnant. There are many physical aches and pains that your
Midwife
or OBGYN may not know how to treat. By using muscle energy techniques,
patient education and manual therapy she can help bring relief from
these symptoms.
Nicole is also currently taking part in a study at BC Women's Hospital
researching the effects of Massage Therapy during active labour.
Some common Pregnancy Musculoskeletal Disorders include:
-Sciatica
-Pain in Pubic bone area (Pubic Symphysis dysfunctions)
-Mid/Low back pain
-Achy Hips
-Swollen Feet/Ankles
-Carpal tunnel syndrome
