| Nicole Stephen, RMT |
Nicole's interest in the health care field began very early on. Upon
graduating high school she began the RN program through Malaspina
College/ University. After the first year she decided to take time off
to pursue another dream of hers, to travel. She spent a significant
amount of time travelling through South East Asia including meditation
and yoga training in Northern India. It was through her travels that
she realized her desire to aid people in physical and emotional
wellness, realizing the powers of the mind and body.
After graduating from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in 2006 she has been drawn to the orthopaedic aspect of anatomy, as well as the therapeutic exercise importance as a health care professional. Seeking out the cause of the symptoms is as important as treating the symptoms. Expect to talk with Nicole about any exacerbating or reinforcing behaviours such as your desk ergonomics, or even your sleeping position. Recently her area of interest lies with Pre and Post Natal Massage Therapy. Treating many of the common dysfunctions that plague an already overwhelming pregnancy, is a passion of hers. There are many disorders that your Midwife or OBGYN may not know how to treat. By using Muscle Energy techniques, Patient Education and Manual Therapy she can hopefully help to bring relief from these symptoms. Some common Pregnancy Musculoskeletal Disorders include: -Sciatica -Pain in Pubic bone area (Pubic Symphysis dysfunctions) -Mid/Low back pain -Achy Hips -Swollen Feet/Ankles -Carpal tunnel syndrome Nicole plans to become a Certified Birth Doula, beginning the training in Feb. 2008. Her areas of interest also include Sports Massage, along with diagnoses and treatment of common injuries related to weaknesses and dysfunction. She has post-graduate training enabling her to work with elite athletes and at the 2010 Olympics Games. She believes in being not so much a healer but more of a guide in helping patients to recover from dysfunction, and aiding in stretching strengthening, or relaxation techniques in order to find a place of ultimate physical and emotional well being.
Nicole was selected to work with the Women's National Soccer Team in Guangzhon, China for the Four Nations Tournament in January of 2008. She will also be travelling with the team to Cyprus at the end of February. |
