Concussions
Everest Therapeutics has over 25 registered massage therapists and we are committed to bringing our clients the best service, at all times. We are open 8 AM – 8 PM, seven days a week, and are located right in the heart of downtown Vancouver, making it convenient to get treatment whenever you need it! Everest is part of downtown Vancouver’s largest multidisciplinary clinic, Electra Health. With healthcare professionals from all types of modalities, you really are in the best hands!
At Everest, our massage therapists are experienced in dealing with injuries resulting from a car-accident. One of the most common types of injuries that our therapists see are concussions. Concussions are caused by excessive movement or force to the head, neck or back. This causes the brain to slide back and forth against the inside of your skull, which can cause damage to brain tissue.

Concussion symptoms can be temporary, but they have a massive impact on your daily life. They can cause memory loss, difficulty in concentration, headaches, equilibrium issues, nausea and much more. At Everest, we know how difficult these symptoms can be, and so we have designed a treatment program to target your injuries, known as the PAARCC protocol. This proven program is unique in that we match you up to a Rehabilitation Team Leader. As a kinesiologist, he or she works in collaboration with your RMT to design, oversee and support you through the recovery process. Your team may recommend other modalities of treatment, such as physio, chiro, acupuncture and counselling. Because we are part of a larger multidisciplinary clinic, getting access to these other therapies is simple!
What to expect in your treatment:
At your initial appointment, your massage therapist will do an assessment of injuries prior to beginning treatment. During your appointment, your therapist aims to make you as comfortable as possible: because concussion symptoms can be triggered through different stimuli, the room is dark, unscented and quiet. In addition, our therapists always treat you in a supine or prone position, which has immediate tension-releasing effects on your head and neck.
At the time of your first booking, you will also be paired with your Rehab Team Leader, who is a certified kinesiologist. This is what makes our program so unique! Your kinesiologist is imperative in your recovery and your best support: he or she works collaboratively with your RMT, and together they design a treatment program for you. This program will include guided active rehabilitation; depending on your needs, the program may also include other types of therapy, such as physio, acupuncture, chiro and counselling. Because we are part of a larger interdisciplinary clinic, accessing these treatments is extremely convenient!
FAQs
Is it okay to receive a massage after suffering from a concussion?
Yes! Massage therapy is actually highly beneficial for concussion symptoms. When a concussion occurs, whiplash also happens. Massage therapy is excellent in relieving tension in the head and neck, which helps alleviate concussion symptoms. Furthermore, our therapists can provide you with tools to help control symptoms when they occur outside of the clinic.
Will ICBC cover my therapies?
Yes! We bill ICBC directly, and they automatically pre-approve you for 12 massage treatments. Other approved treatments are also listed. Please note that ICBC approves these treatments within 3 months of your accident date. Because your pre-approvals are dependent on your accident date, time is of the essence, so don’t wait to come in!

How long will my recovery take?
Diagnosis and recovery for concussions range from mild to severe, and so it is difficult to know precisely how long you will experience symptoms. Our intention with the PAARCC program is to have you feeling better after 3 months of continuous treatment.
Is there anything I should avoid doing after a concussion?
Avoid doing anything that triggers symptoms: this can include any sort of rigorous physical that will raise your heart rate, reading, watching TV, using the computer, loud noises and bright lights. You should also avoid operating heavy machinery or vehicles until cleared by your doctor.
